Castelbottaccio is an Italian town of 264 inhabitants in the province of Campobasso, in Molise. It rises on the hills located to the left of the Biferno river, 617 meters above sea level.
Castelbottaccio is far from: Campobasso 36 km. Termoli 48 km. from the ski slopes of Campitello Matese of 66.9Km, and from the airport of Pescara 144 Km.
The town is 40 minutes by car from the seaside resort of Campomarino Lido, its beaches are blue flag.
It enjoys an optimal geographical position for the healthiness and mildness of the climate and suggestive for the wide panoramic views which, from its highest point (Colle Iannone, 717 meters), range over the neighboring areas of Matese and Biferno and reach the sea. and to the Tremiti islands (for which there are direct connections from Termoli).
The real name of the town - as evidenced by a document from 1148 - is "Calcabuttaccio" (rock surrounded by a moat full of water), called "Calcabuzca" by Galanti (1780)
“Castelbottaccio” began to be written from a document dated February 1767.
The coat of arms of the municipality includes a barrel surmounted by the “civitas” castle granted with official recognition, with coat of arms, by the Kingdom of the Savoy in 1930.

March 19: feast of St. Joseph, the population of the village gathers to eat together, with three people who take care of the recreation of the "Holy Family". Traditional dishes and characteristic sweets are consumed.
